רותי בן יצחק גלקין נולדה בישראל בא' בשבט תש"ו, 3 בינואר 1946. הוריה, ממקימי קיבוץ יחיעם שבגליל, היו ניצולי שואה מהונגריה ומצ'כוסלובקיה, שעלו לארץ לאחר מלחמת העולם השניה. בילדותה נדדה עם משפחתה מן הקיבוץ לחיפה, ליפו ולרמת-אביב. למדה ספרות עברית, פילוסופיה והוראה באוניברסיטת תל-אביב וספרנות באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. הקימה את ביתה בבאר-שבע ועבדה כספרנית יעץ בכירה בספריית ארן באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון בנגב. אם לבת, דורין גלקין. כתבה שירים מגיל צעיר. עיקר כתיבתה בעברית, ומיעוטה באנגלית. עסקה גם בתרגום שירה. חובבת צילום ומצלמת במיוחד פורטרטים, בעלי-חיים ונופים. פרסמה ספרי שירה בהוצאת עקד, ושירים בודדים התפרסמו בקבצי שירה, בעיתונים ובכתבי-עת. רותי בן-יצחק גלקין נפטרה בי"ח בכסלו תשע"ב, 14 בדצמבר 2011.

Born in Israel in early 1946. Daughter of Holocaust survivors from Hungary and Czechoslovakia, who made aliyah after World War II, and were among the founders of Kibbutz Yehi’am in the Galil. As a child, she moved with her family from the kibbutz to Haifa, to Yafo and to Tel Aviv. Studied Hebrew Literature, Philosophy and Education at Tel Aviv University and Library Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Resident of Beer Sheva. Mother to a daughter, Doreen Galkin. Works as a senior reference librarian in the Aranne Library, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Began writing at a young age. Writes mostly poetry in Hebrew. Also translates poetry. Some of her poems were written originally in English and translated by her into Hebrew. Enjoys photography and specializes in portraits, animals and landscapes. Books of her poetry were published by Eked. Selected poems were published in poetry anthologies and newspapers.
